The Splendour in the Grass lineup is here, and it’s big
It’s here and it’s huge, it’s Splendour! Australia’s favourite music festival, Splendour In The Grass has announced its monumental 2015 line up. With headliners Mark Ronson, Florence and the Machine and Blur!
The festival will kick off on the 24th of July in Byron Bay, with Of Monsters And Men, Peking Duk and Mark Ronson, all artists that have placed in the top 10 of Triple J’s Hottest 100. Other Triple J favourites such as The Rubens, Everything Everything, San Cisco, Tkay Maidza, #1 Dads, Dustin Tebitt, George Maple and Japanese Wallpaper are also on the bill. With such a jam packed day you’ll probably look something like this running between Splendour’s 4 main stages…
Death Cab for Cutie are set to play their first Australian gig since 2012, and first Splendour since a whopping 9 years ago. From social media, I can tell you that fans are very much excited for this long awaited return.
Day two leads with Florence and the Machine, The Wombats, and homegrown electronic producers Flight Facilities, who recently played the touring Laneway festival. Australian favourites Boy & Bear, Pond, Meg Mac, Dune Rats, and The Smith Street Band are set to take the stage. Along with international acts such as The Dandy Warhols, Years and Years, Swedish rapper Elliphant, and LA natives Best Coast. Azealia Banks, who has had a troubled past with gigs down under, after walking off stage multiple times during her last tour, is also on the bill for the day. Hopefully we get to see a full set by her this time so everybody can get their dance on uninterrupted.
Sunday is not too shabby either with Blur, Aus favourites, Tame Impala and Royal Blood, filling the headlining spots. International artists Earl Sweatshirt, Jamie T, MS MR, MO, The Vaccines, and Shlomo seem ready to entertain. With the rest of the bill being filled out with Aus acts Alison Wonderland, Thundamentals, Allday, Megan Washington, Last Dinosaurs, Alpine, The Delta Riggs, Holy Holy, Elizabeth Rose, and GL. It’s great to see Blur making up for pulling out of the 2014 Big Day Out lineup at the last minute, which left a lot of people unhappy and asking for refunds last year. But all is forgiven, as they have a shiny new album to play for us all, The Magic Whip.
Hopefully no acts pull out of the event this year, as last year saw anticipated bands such as London Grammar, Two Door Cinema Club, and The Wild Feathers, pulling out at the last minute due to illness. But with this great a line up Splendour is sure to draw large crowds, especially with so many high rotation Triple J artists on the bill. Make sure to get your tickets early to avoid missing out!
