Vaccines are Not Rape
A controversial anti-vaccination group has likened vaccines to rape, claiming that vaccinations are “forced penetration” and that people should have a choice over what goes into their bodies.
The Australian Vaccination Skeptics Network posted a black and white image of a woman with a man violently holding his hand over the woman’s mouth on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon.
It’s been a heavy topic on the national agenda with Tony Abbot announcing his ‘No Jab No Pay’ policy, and the public opinion all over social media emphasising the issue. The message in the picture has resulted in the AVN’s own supporters being disgusted and questioning their morals on the topic. The post has since been deleted but the Sydney Morning Herald recorded a number of comments objecting to the statement;
“This is disgusting. Are you saying you believe your child being immunised is as bad as your child being raped? This could also be very triggering for victims of sexual assault,” Rachelle Taylor.
A response from the group read-
“This post isn’t tasteless — it is honest”, “What truly IS tasteless is our elected government trying to tell us that we have to vaccinate our children even if we don’t believe it is best for their health.”
The issue has reached ultimate tension in the US after the country saw a record number of cases of measles. World Health Organisation continue to endorse vaccinations and it is worrying to see rates of immunisation drop below 90 percent in 17 US States. In Australia, we currently sit on a 97 percent rate however this is being contested with a growing number of parents listing as conscientious objectors to vaccinations.
The belief that vaccinations cause Autism have been discredited for almost a decade now. Some have labelled the comparison, of vaccination to rape, as obscene and hurtful.
Or as Jimmey Kimmel puts it:
